A Malaysian warship again trespassed Indonesian waters on Saturday. The fast attack craft-type ship belonging to the Malaysian navy code-named KD Baung-3509 openly conducted provocations by entering Indonesian waters at 6am on Saturday as far as 7.3 miles at 04.00.00 North Latitude and 118.09.00 East Longitude at a speed of 11 knot, Eastern Fleet Command spokesman Lt Col Toni Syaiful said.
The violation was detected through a radar at the KRI Untung Surapati patrolling in the Ambalat waters. The commander of the Indonesian navy warship then ordered his men to be combat ready and chase the Malaysian ship.
Two other Indonesian navy ships, namely KRI Pulau Rimba and KRI Suluh Pari, that were just patrolling in the area joined the operation. "After approaching the location of violation they could visually identify the ship as a Malaysian warship with code-name KD Baung-3509," he said.
The Malaysian ship had violated the Indonesian waters before, namely on Sunday. "KD Baung-3509 was identified as weighing 244 tons and 44.9 meter long and seven meter wide and made in Germany in 1976," he said.
KRI Untung Surapati confirmed the Malaysian ship carrying 57 mm and 40 mm canons rejected to conduct communications and turned off its radio. Because of that KRI Untung Surapati then gave signals while shadowing it to force the Malaysian ship to leave the waters.
He said "during shadowing KD Baung conducted four manouvers and increased its speed. Tension built for 1.5 hours but KRI Untung Surapati could finally drive it away." Not long after KD Baung left for the Malaysian waters a Malaysian helicopter flew above the ship in a position to protect it. "Upon seeing it KRI Untung Surapati then contacted Nomad P-834 in Tarakan, East Kalimantan, to help its operation to drive away the Malaysian ship," Toni said.
